Irene is the Education Officer at Global Action Plan. She works closely with the Programmes team to coordinate and deliver environmental education programmes to schools, businesses and community groups across Ireland. Irene’s experience in environmental education has focused predominantly on biodiversity, but she is knowledgeable in the areas of sustainable development and climate justice. Irene is deeply passionate about developing and applying solutions to the climate and ecological crises which are accessible for all. She believes in the power of people and collective creativity to instigate positive change.
Irene has five years of experience working in the environmental sector. As a research assistant with BirdWatch Ireland, Irene coordinated and contributed to environmental education initiatives such as an online webinar series on biodiversity and interactive online StoryMaps. She has carried out ornithological field-based research and conservation in a variety of roles, and has delivered talks and assistance to school children on biodiversity conservation and prospective college courses (through promotion of the UCD Science Programme). Irene also has experience in ecological consultancy work. She has carried out work in a voluntary capacity as a researcher, advocate and activist. Irene brings her creative skills to every role; from illustrating children’s info. cards on biodiversity, to making interactive props which promote species conservation, she finds a way to use art to educate and engage.
