Education Officer

Brief info

Caitriona is the Education Officer at Global Action Plan. She works closely with the Programmes team to coordinate and deliver environmental education programmes to schools, businesses and community groups across Ireland.

Caitriona’s experience in climate change education has been diverse but she has a passion for community climate responses and action, believing that climate action need not be prescriptive or punitive but rather collaborative, positive and engaging. Caitriona loves swimming in the sea and spending time in nature.

Caitriona has many years experience working in the community and voluntary sector, working in a variety of childcare and community development organisations. A lifelong volunteer, Caitriona has had numerous roles including dressing up as a fox for an animal rights organisation, setting up and running a local cyclebus, and researching and reporting on active transport initiatives in her community, to name but a few.

Having worked as a freelance facilitator and workshop developer, Caitriona has experience working with all ages and backgrounds and in recent years has moved her workshop focus from drama, child development and play to all things climate action. Art, movement and nature based activities, when appropriate are tools that Caitriona enjoys using in her work.

She is a founding member of 'Connecting Cabra' (a very active Sustainable Energy Community), The D7 Cycle Bus, and is involved with a Climate Cooperative in her local area.

Caitriona holds an honours master’s degree in Climate Change: Media, Policy and Society from DCU, her capstone project for this masters was the development of climate change educational materials aimed at primary aged children, and a BSc. in Social Science. She has completed a number of short courses over the years in child development, art therapy and play therapy and continues to learn about matters pertaining to climate change, climate justice and climate action.
