GAP Ireland is proud to be part of Global Action Plan International; a global network of independent and passionate organisations, helping people take action for a fairer, greener world.

Global Action Plan International is a worldwide network of passionate organisations, working together to build a better world, one action at a time.

The members of GAP International believe in the power of people.

When individuals and communities come together, they can create real, lasting change, for themselves, for each other and for the planet we all share.

Our vision is a thriving planet, full of life and possibility, where people live with care, courage and connection. Where societies are strong and resilient, and where sustainable living is not just a goal, but a joyful way of life.

In over 20 countries, GAP International member organisations help people take action: at home, at school, at work and in their neighbourhoods. We share tools, stories and knowledge to inspire change.

Together, we face big challenges like climate change, waste and inequality. And together, we spark hope, by showing that change is possible. And by showing that change is already happening.

GAP Ireland is proud to be part of this global family. We bring local experience, creativity and science to a shared movement for a fairer, healthier, more sustainable future.

GAP International History

Founded in 1989 in the USA, Global Action Plan International network is at the forefront of education for sustainable development and sustainable behaviour change, including carbon-neutral households, communities and workplaces.

Initial work saw the development of The Green Living Programme.  This programme is a community-based campaign enabling large numbers of people to make simple changes to reduce their consumption habits. Moreover, this programme is the foundation of all of our work.

Global Action Plan Network

First, Global Action Plan grew its network from the USA to the Netherlands. Then, it continued to expand to other countries like Canada, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. Now, there are members in over 20 countries.

While each member organisation works towards the same mission, each is an independent entity with full responsibility for designing and delivering its own programmes. In addition to that, each member organisation manages their our finances and accounting. For information on the programmes GAP Ireland runs, click here.
