Chef Carl from Ballark centre lead an exciting workshop in the Glás Garden recently. Instead of our regular tea and biscuits at midday we enjoyed a freshly cooked lunch made with ingredients Carl collected from the garden.

He picked herbs including chives, sage, parsley, thyme and lemon balm. His chosen vegetables were onions, artichoke, leeks and potatoes.

Carl prepared the food on a small camping stove while the Lads were working hard in the garden.

What a treat!

IS GROWING ORGANIC EXPENSIVE?

We estimated the cost of the ingredients etc. to be around €10 as a conservative restaurant estimate. 4 portions were made would have been a total of €40.

Chef Carol brought chicken costing €4, and the home grown veg and herbs  cost less than €1 = €5 Total Spend.

In addition to saving money our participants gained a better understanding of where food comes from. There are proven health benefits from eating fresh organically grow produce, and when it looks this good you know it’s delicious!
