Enniscorthy launches unique Climate Champions initiative for climate action

Wexford County Council is organising the Enniscorthy Climate Champions initiative, a community-focused competition designed to inspire and empower local groups, workplaces, and schools to take meaningful climate action.

Building upon the success of GAP’s national programmes like Climate Heroes, which have engaged over 100 community groups across 18 counties in Ireland to reduce their carbon footprints, the Enniscorthy Climate Champions initiative aims to foster a spirit of collective responsibility and friendly competition within the Enniscorthy region.

    • Who Can Participate: The competition is open to community and voluntary groups, workplaces, and schools located within the Enniscorthy region. Multiple teams from the same organization are welcome to participate.

    • Team Formation: Each team should consist of at least five members. Team leaders are encouraged to register their teams on the Ducky platform, a user-friendly website that tracks and calculates CO₂ savings based on logged activities.

    • Duration: The competition will run for two weeks, from 31 March to 14 April 2025.

For the duration of the competition, the people of Enniscorthy will log the actions they have taken each day to try and reduce their carbon footprints.

The online platform for the challenge provides participants with a menu of small lifestyle changes that they can make to help protect the planet. These simple yet impactful actions reduce personal emissions and can be added up to demonstrate the huge impact that small lifestyle adjustments can have.

If you live or work in Enniscorthy, contact Wexford County Council’s Climate Action Team to get involved with this unique competition.
