The people of Ballymun are coming together once again for Better Ballymun Day, a day of action and community spirit, happening on Friday 14 March.

The event, led by students from Trinity Comprehensive School, encourages everyone – students, parents, local businesses, sports clubs and community groups – to roll up their sleeves and make a real difference in their area.

Now in its fifth year, Better Ballymun Day is proof that small actions lead to big changes.

From litter picking and planting trees to organising poetry trails, sharing books or promoting micro enterprises, every local action adds up. The event isn’t just about improving Ballymun’s appearance; it’s about strengthening the community and showing that Ballymun is a place to be proud of.

In previous years, Better Ballymun Day has seen significant involvement from the community. For instance, in 2022, over 2,000 locals participated in more than 60 different projects, including litter picking, tree planting and community art installations. Each year since, the event has grown bigger, bringing together people from all walks of life to create a cleaner, greener and more connected Ballymun.

The event has also inspired initiatives like the “Ballymun Is Brilliant” project, which uses art to highlight the creativity and resilience of Ballymun residents.

This year, participants can look forward to a variety of activities designed to enhance the community and strengthen bonds among residents.

Everyone is invited to join in and contribute to the positive changes happening in Ballymun.

The 2025 edition of Better Ballymun Day highlights the links between local initiatives and the Sustainable Development Goals agreed by world leaders in 2015. There is an explicit focus on sustainability in many of the initiatives taken on the day, with benefits not just for the day of action but for generations to come.
