GAP brings its award-winning social inclusion and environmental education model to Bloom, celebrating connection for people and nature

Global Action Plan (GAP) Ireland is proud to announce that it has been selected to create a Postcard Garden at Bord Bia Bloom 2026, Ireland’s largest celebration of gardening, food and sustainable living.

Taking place in the Phoenix Park over the June Bank Holiday weekend, Bloom brings together communities, designers and changemakers to explore how we can live well within the limits of our planet.

GAP Ireland’s inclusion in the Postcard Garden category places it among a select group of community organisations invited to tell powerful local stories through creative, small-scale garden design.

Postcard Gardens are compact but impactful spaces – typically just 3m x 2m – that enable community groups to showcase ideas, spark conversations and connect with a national audience through nature-based storytelling.

GAP’s “Wish You Were Here” garden: inclusion, connection and solidarity

GAP Ireland’s postcard garden, titled “Wish You Were Here,” invites visitors into a small urban oasis inspired by the GLAS community gardens. It is a space rooted in inclusion, diversity and connection, for both people and nature.

The garden celebrates the richness of community life, where volunteers from many backgrounds come together to grow vegetables, herbs and dwarf fruit trees in a compact space. Through vertical planting and layered design, it demonstrates what is possible even in small urban settings.

Planting has been carefully designed with wildlife in mind. Pollinator-friendly flowers, wildflower areas and open vegetable beds provide food and shelter for birds, insects and other creatures often overlooked. This reflects a simple but powerful idea: that balance and inclusion are as important in nature as they are in our communities.

At the heart of the garden is a mural created by GLAS volunteers, sharing their stories, experiences and sense of belonging. This visual centrepiece, alongside a welcoming invitation to get involved, encourages visitors to connect with the space not just as observers, but as potential participants.

Our Postcard Garden reflects the organisation’s core ethos: that climate action starts with people, place and everyday choices. Like the actual GLAS gardens, our postcard garden at Bloom is designed as a space for reflection and inspiration, as a means to highlight the power of community-led climate action and the  importance of access to green spaces for wellbeing and inclusion.

We are delighted to be part of Bloom 2026. This garden is a celebration of the people who make our community gardens what they are; places of welcome, creativity and connection.

‘Wish You Were Here’ is both an invitation and a message: that everyone belongs, and that small, shared actions can grow into something powerful.
