How EU support fuels our mission.

Each year on 9 May, Europe comes together to celebrate Europe Day, a day to highlight the unity, peace and collaboration across the continent.

The date of 9 May was chosen, as on that day in 1950 the foundation of the European Union as we know it was set out in an extraordinary declaration based on two core principles: peace and solidarity.

For us at Global Action Plan Ireland, Europe Day is a moment to celebrate these core European values.

It is also a day to reflect on how the EU, through initiatives like Erasmus+ funding, has been instrumental in enabling our work towards building more sustainable communities.

Thanks to the support from Erasmus+, GAP Ireland has been able to connect with partners across Europe, share knowledge and develop transformative educational programmes.

With our partners in the GAP International network, we have been able to:

    • Deliver environmental education to young people and adults alike.

    • Help schools to place themselves at the centre of local community climate action.

    • Strengthen our work on sustainability, social inclusion and citizen engagement, by developing teaching resources on a range of topics

Europe Day reminds us that challenges like climate change, food waste and social inequality do not stop at borders, and neither should the solutions.

Through EU collaboration, we continue to work towards a greener, fairer future.

So this Europe Day, we,’d like to add our voice to the chorus celebrating unity in diversity.

Europe is a living mosaic; each culture, each language, a vital piece of a bigger picture. Europe Day is our chance to celebrate the beauty of these differences coming together as one.

Happy Europe Day from all of us at Global Action Plan Ireland!
