GAP presents its submission to the National Conversation on Education

At GAP, we are proud to contribute to the National Conversation on Education and the forthcoming Convention on Education 2026 with our submission, Education that builds resilience and solidarity in an unequal and uncertain world.

The Government has spoken of the National Conversation on Education as being a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape Ireland’s education system. And at GAP we believe that our education system needs to equip learners not just for exams or jobs, but for life in a complex, interconnected world.

Drawing on our experience in environmental education, community development and global citizenship education, our submission sets out a number of recommendations to ensure that learning:

  • Prepares young people to navigate uncertainty with resilience, ethical reasoning and agency.
  • Embeds Global Citizenship Education and sustainability as core components of the curriculum.
  • Integrates nature-based, experiential and action-oriented learning to build skills, curiosity and connection.
  • Strengthens lifelong learning by linking schools, families and communities in shared educational experiences.
  • Supports educators through high-quality training, resources and professional development.
Our vision is clear: an education system that develops knowledgeable, compassionate and responsible citizens; nurtures curiosity, collaboration and critical thinking; and empowers learners of all ages to take meaningful action for a better future.
