The Funds Industry Climate Challenge has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Spider Award in the Sustainability Impact category.

The Spider Awards, now in their 27th year, celebrate excellence in digital innovation across Ireland. The Sustainability Impact Award specifically honours digital campaigns that have made significant positive environmental impacts.

Launched by the Green Team Network in partnership with Ducky.eco and Global Action Plan Ireland, the Funds Industry Climate Challenge engages companies in the funds industry to promote bottom-up sustainability initiatives. During the 2-week challenge teams of employees log daily climate-friendly activities, with each action quantified in terms of CO₂ emissions reduced.

The Funds Industry Climate Challenge is Ireland’s largest climate initiative for businesses. In 2024, over 2,900 people from 29 companies participated, logging more than 290,000 small climate-smart actions over two weeks. Their actions resulted in a savings of 280 tonnes of CO2 emissions – an increase on 2023, when the Challenge saved 173 tonnes of CO2.

The Funds Industry Climate Challenge is the only sustainability initiative designed specifically for the funds sector. This unique initiative celebrates collaboration across firms to drive meaningful environmental action.

A further benefit which we have heard about firsthand from participants in the Challenge is that many of the small climate-friendly actions they took during the 2 week challenge have now become positive habits, inspiring them to consider more possibilities and take further action at home, in their communities and in their places of work.

The recognition by the Spider Awards highlights the Challenge’s innovative approach to integrating sustainability into the financial sector. It serves as a testament to the dedication of participating companies and their employees in making a tangible difference for the environment.

We are incredibly proud to see our efforts recognised in the 2025 Spider Awards. This award affirms the importance of GAP’s mission to empower people, in every part of society, to take meaningful action for the planet.

Our programmes address a key barrier to environmental action: the belief that individual actions don’t matter. We are delighted with this award, which recognises the Funds Industry Climate Challenge as a standout tool for employee engagement, empowering staff in an influential sector of the economy to take practical and informed climate action.

This year’s edition of the Funds Industry Climate Challenge will take place between 31 March and 14 April 2025.
