GAP Ireland is honoured to announce that the President of Ireland has agreed to become Patron of the organisation.
The appointment recognises the power of community-led action in tackling environmental challenges and building a fairer, more sustainable future for all. It also shines a light on the everyday actions people are taking in their schools, workplaces and communities, demonstrating how good intentions can be turned into meaningful change.
The announcement comes at a time when it is especially important to make community climate action visible and easy to get involved in. It recognises GAP’s work in helping people build the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to take action on climate change. It also reflects GAP’s experience that people are more likely to act when they see others doing so, and when they are supported by shared norms and real opportunities to make change happen.
Speaking on the announcement, Hans Zomer, Chief Executive of GAP Ireland, said:

GAP Ireland works with communities across the country to support behaviour change, environmental awareness and collective action for sustainability. Through programmes such as community initiatives, education projects and place-based work like the GLAS garden, GAP supports people to take meaningful action in their daily lives while strengthening social connection and wellbeing.
