Global Action Plan congratulates County Kildare Chamber on winning the inaugural Chambers Ireland award for engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals
Global Action Plan has congratulated County Kildare Chamber on winning the first-ever ‘Engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals’ award at the 2022 Chamber Awards.
The awards, hosted by Chambers Ireland, recognise outstanding work of chambers of commerce throughout the country in supporting local, regional and national business.
Kildare Chamber was recognised for the ‘Sustainable Kildare’ campaign, which it has been running in partnership with Global Action Plan, Ducky and Intel Ireland.
“We are delighted that Kildare Chamber has been recognised for its pioneering work, engaging member companies with the Sustainable Development Goals. And we are proud that of our role in the ‘Sustainable Kildare’ project which is at the heart of of the Chamber’s strategy that has won this accolade,” said Hans Zomer, CEO of Global Action Plan.
“Sustainable Kildare is a year-long climate action programme for businesses, that helps change employees’ lifestyle habits and support companies in their sustainability journey. The tools we use in the competition show the impact of a wide range of climate actions, and the power of small but well-informed actions,” said Global Action Plan CEO, Hans Zomer.
The programme is built around an online Climate Championship, where businesses can participate and compete with each other by partaking in and logging eco-friendly activities over a 3-week period. These activities are logged on Global Action Plan’s ‘Ducky’ app, which has all the necessary tools to allow businesses to set their starting point by measuring current carbon footprint, attitudes, and knowledge about personal impact & uncover the barriers that prevent change from happening.
“The first of three championships hosted by Kildare Chamber, and sponsored by Intel Ireland, kicked off in October 2021; the second took place in February 2022 and the last championship round is taking place right now, having kicked off at the end of May 2022,” explained Hans Zomer.
“To date, in the first two rounds of the programme, 43,596 Kg CO2e has been saved through eco-friendly activities undertaken by the employees of Kildare based businesses. If everyone in Ireland had followed their example, and sustained their new habits throughout the year, we would have achieved a reduction in Ireland’s CO2 emissions of about 30-40%.”
“This is an innovative project, and Kildare Chamber deserves this recognition of its leadership in this area,” concluded Global Action Plan CEO Hans Zomer.
