Last week we said goodbye to a fantastic member of our team, Alix.
Alix began her internship at GAP last April 2016, as part of her Analytical Science degree at DCU.
The placement lasted 16 weeks.
As Assistant to the Education Officer, Alix worked alongside Padraic on the development and delivery of a variety of workshops in schools, communities and at public events. The role was tailored to suit Alix’s interest in teaching, and to maximise her work experience in preparation for this next step in her studies.
Internships are tailored to suit each interns area of interest and skill set.
Applicants can send a CV and brief introductory note detailing preferred dates and areas of interest via email.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at GAP. I started with a small amount of work experience in teaching and I will be leaving with lots! When I first started I told GAP that teaching was something I had an interest in and they made it a point to let me get as much as I could out of the internship that would benefit me in this interest.
I felt very welcome from the first day I started. All of the staff are extremely friendly, enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. Padraic was amazing to work with and I learned so much from him. He was encouraging, patient and very clear with instructions of what work I had to do. It was a great experience to have been able to work alongside someone so driven.
My eyes have really been opened to environmental issues and I have learned a great deal about climate change, water conservation, energy conservation, biodiversity and transport from carrying out and redeveloping workshops. I have gained so much more confidence and facilitation skills from this internship. I have become more appreciative of the environment, the importance of teamwork and the running of an organization. I am very glad to have been given the opportunity to work at Global Action Plan and I will always speak highly of GAP in the future.
It has been a pleasure to work with and get to know Alix, and we know she will have a very bright and successful career!
